At Xanascat we know that travelling is a fundamental right, but that travelling as responsibly and sustainably as possible is our duty. That's why we have taken a commitment not only local and social but also to be respectful with the environment and to care for the world in which we live.
We at Xanascat work to ensure that our hostels are as respectful and sustainable for the environment around them as possible. That's why we are committed to a series of measures that help to contribute to the sustainability of our environs and planet and that avoid compromising our future and that of the upcoming generations.
Below we present some of the measures we have taken and plan to take soon:
Water
- We have aerators and push-buttons on the vast majority of taps to minimise water consumption.
- In the outdoor landscaped areas, we use local plants to minimise the need for water.
Electricity
- We use low-consumption LED lighting.
- You’ll find buttons and timers in many of our spaces so that lights don’t stay on any longer than necessary.
- In the hostels in Coma-ruga, Poble Nou del Delta and Núria, we have installed photovoltaic arrays to generate the electrical energy we use at the hostel, lowering our dependence on the grid. We have plans to expand these arrays to the hostels in Cabrera de Mar, Tremp, L’Escala and L’Espluga de Francolí.
Fuels
- We have eliminated diesel from our facilities (Núria, Poble Nou del Delta, Olot and others), and today it only remains in L’Espluga de Francolí, where we have plans to eliminate it soon!
- We lower our gas consumption with air-source heat pumps for both climate control and the production of sanitary hot water in hostels like Coma-ruga and Poble Nou del Delta.
- We have installed a geothermal array in Núria (which enables us to be fuel self-sufficient) and have plans to install more in L’Espluga de Francolí and Vic.
Waste
- We actively sort and separate our waste into the main categories (paper, plastic, organic, etc.) at all the hostels. You can help us by using the containers located around our hostels.
- A plan to minimise plastics and lower waste is being implemented.
Plus, we don't want our involvement in this effort to be limited to the most tangible side of hostels; instead, we want to contribute to fostering sustainability along with you, by organising activities that are not only fun but also encourage respect and care for nature, our surroundings and the environment. Therefore, we aim to get all guests involved in experiences that help them to gain awareness and equip them with the tools to be more sustainable.
