A hostel is a kind of accommodation designed for the individuals, families and groups that stay there. The hostels in the Xanascat network belong to the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), an association more than 50 years old that provides a different way to travel around the world. The IYHF and all the hostels that belong to it meet high quality standards which bear in mind values like peaceful coexistence, tolerance and respect for the environment. Xanascat also has a series of programmes and activities to foster knowledge of the landscape, history and culture of Catalonia, among many others.

No. A youth hostel card is a document that accredits membership in the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), which has more than 4,000 facilities around the world. In theory, it is ‘necessary’ if you want to stay in hostels. However, Xanascat offers non-members the possibility of using our hostels if they pay a supplement of 2 euros per night.

It costs €5.00 for young people (aged 14 to 29) and €10.00 for adults (over the age of 30).

Most Xanascat hostels have a kitchen and dining room service. They also have a picnic service. Most hostel guests cannot use the kitchen, although if you ask in advance you may be able to use the dining room to eat your own food and heat it up in the microwave. For hygiene and safety reasons, guests cannot use the fridge or store food in the rooms.

The rules require that a bed be assigned to each guest staying at the facility. Bearing in mind that they are single beds, sleeping together is not recommended. However, it is the parent’s or guardian's responsibility if they decide to sleep with their child, even if they have an assigned bed.
