A Purple Point is a designated, safe and visible place designed to prevent, detect and tackle cases of harassment, gender-based violence or any form of discrimination on the grounds of gender and/or sexual orientation. It offers information, support and guidance and fosters inclusive environments based on respect and equality.
At Xanascat, we aim to ensure positive and safe experiences for everyone. Hence the hostels run by the Catalan Youth Agency have Purple Points with trained staff and specific resources to respond to any incidents and help prevent them.
Our commitment is unwavering: to create spaces where everyone feels respected, listened to and supported.
Services
Under current legislation, public bodies are required to work to prevent and eradicate gender-based and LGBTIQ+-phobia violence. For this reason, town and county councils, consortiums and the Government of Catalonia furnish a range of public services which cater to the residents of the relevant municipality or region.
Women’s Information and Support Service (SIAD)
Women’s Information and Support Services (SIAD), run by town or county councils, provide information on a wide range of topics such as health, employment, housing, services and resources for women. They also refer users to the relevant organisations and agencies when needed.
It is not strictly necessary for the women receiving support to be experiencing violence as the service addresses any issues arising from gender-related distress. It additionally offers legal advice.
The professional team working in a SIAD is often composed of:
- 1 psychologist for adult women
- 1 child and adolescent psychologist
- 1 lawyer
SIAD services may be run by the local council, a consortium or county councils
depending on the size of the population of the town.
