Disconnect, relax and learn

The surroundings of the L’Espluga de Francolí Xanascat hotel afford a wide array of cultural and natural possibilities. The hostel is surrounded by fields and forests, like the Poblet Forest, and it's just 1 km from the Poblet monastery, which not only is extremely important architecturally and historically but also has some of the best views in the region!

You can do lots more things near L’Espluga, too! You can time-travel by visiting L’Espluga cave or go back to the Middle Ages in Montblanc.

And if you are aiming to learn more, you can discover new trades, farming methods, tool-making and more by immersing yourself in the rural world at L’Espluga’s Rural Life Museum.

What you can do and what can you visit?

If you’re interested in nature, the El Garber interpretation centre is located right next to the hostel, where you can identify many Mediterranean forest species.

You can also take one of the nine routes around the Poblet Forest just near the hostel. You can follow the Cistercian route or take a walking or mountain bike tour through the Prades Mountains.

If you love architecture, don’t miss a visit to the monasteries in Poblet, Vallbona de les Monges or Santes Creus.

But L’Espluga de Francolí has lots more to see and do! At the Rural Life Museum, you’ll discover a very dynamic way to learn about all the history and curiosities of the rural world. La Cova de la Font Major in L’Espluga cave will transport you back to prehistory so you can see how our ancestors lived. You can also visit the former Fassina Balanyà distillery, or discover the past related to the Knights Templar and Hospitaller in L’Espluga with a virtual route through the town's old quarter.

Mediaeval Montblanc will astonish you. You can visit the city walls and learn about the legend of Saint George up close. You can also get away to the Mas d’en Llort, whose cave paintings have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And if you love wine, the Conca de Barberà is full of small family wineries scattered throughout the entire region, where they’ll throw their doors open so you can sample their craft. Don’t forget Trepat, the most typical grape variety used to make wine in this region, and you’ve got to sample the carquinyolis, L’Espluga de Francolí’s typical sweet!
